Glow Up, Cut Loose
The Full Moon Glow Collage
Glow Up, Cut Loose:
Make a Full Moon Glow Collage
Rewind to when summer nights felt electrifying, and the breeze was warm, the music was loud, and life was carefree.
That feeling of being alive, the electric, is exactly what the August full moon is made of. It's the whole groovy vibe and energy behind this art journal project.

The August full moon has a soundtrack, and trust me, it's groovy and outta sight! ↗
What Is a Glow Collage?
A ‘Glow Up Collage’ is what I’m titling this art journal page! It totally aligns with the intoxicating, energizing full moon energy on paper. It glides, it dances, and is definitely NOT precious or perfect. So, don’t worry bout it, just let it all hang out.
For my mixed-media glow collage project, I looked for papers, paints, markers, or anything that reflects, radiates, or symbolizes the energy of a full moon and the song ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’. I ended up using silver tissue paper layered over a hand-drawn moon, which, looking back, makes it look more like a new moon, but hey, it’s my project, and I’m just letting it be. 😉 In my mind, full moons are bright and silvery, hence the silver I used. I also layered a patterned tissue paper with wavy lines to represent the magical feeling full moons give off, and magazine clippings of people dancing. I even used the inside pattern of a security envelope! Nothing is off-limits. I also added hand-lettering and a couple of snippets from the song.
Generally, the messier the better.
Suggested Materials
No fancy supplies required. All that is required is for you to alchemize the moon’s vibe of how you feel its pull.
Scraps of irradecent paper, cellophane, tissue paper, vellum, or anything that gives a moon glow effect
Magazine clippings, old Polaroids, retro stickers, or any graphics that inspire the vibe you are going for
Lyrics from your favorite moon songs (hello, King Harvest 🎵), poems, or quotes
Paints, markers, or crayons to add hand-lettered elements, or other designs or symbols
Additional Suggestions
Anchor the page with circular shapes for moon phases, halos, or orbits
Build dreamy backgrounds with pastels, watercolor, or smudged pencil
Write affirmations, moon intentions, or releases as magical secret messages beneath the collage layers, OR create secret pockets within the collage elements to hide love notes to your future self.
* Remember, the goal isn't perfection.
Collage is magic
Collage lets us reclaim pieces of ourselves - literally & figuratively.
We take what's scattered, what's forgotten, what's been clipped and set aside, and give it a magical new life.
It reminds us, quietly, that we've always been artists even when life told us to grow up and get seriously boring.
So please, for the love of Pete, go ahead and grab your glue stick, man. Let the full moon see you shine on.
